The buzz word of the moment is “tariffs,” and consumers all over the world can expect some rocky pricing for imported goods as a result.

What about tools for Americans? Isn’t everything really made in Asia these days?

In fact, several tool brands manufacture at least some of their products in the United States. While many brands use globally sourced materials or produce certain items overseas, the following companies are known for having manufacturing operations in the U.S., often emphasizing American-made quality. Here’s a list of notable ones:

  • Channellock: Based in Pennsylvania, this brand has been producing high-quality pliers, screwdrivers, and other hand tools since 1886. Most of their products, especially their iconic tongue-and-groove pliers, are made in the USA,

  • Klein Tools: Established in 1857, this Illinois-based company focuses on tools for electricians, like pliers, wire strippers, and screwdrivers. The majority of their products are manufactured in the U.S., with a commitment to keeping production domestic.

  • Estwing: Operating out of Rockford, Illinois since 1923, Estwing makes hammers, axes, pry bars, and specialty tools. All their products are crafted in the USA, known for durability and features like their patented shock-reduction grip.

  • Craftsman: Now owned by Stanley Black & Decker, Craftsman has a long history of American manufacturing. While some older tools were made overseas, select newer models—like certain power tools and hand tools—are manufactured using global materials in states such as South Carolina, Kentucky, and Mississippi.

  • DeWalt: Another Stanley Black & Decker brand, DeWalt manufactures many of its power tools (e.g., drills, saws) and hand tools in the U.S., using global materials. They operate multiple plants, including in North Carolina and Indiana, with over 48 facilities nationwide.

  • Snap-on: Headquartered in Wisconsin, Snap-on produces a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and tool storage solutions. Many of their products are made in U.S. facilities, such as those in Alabama, Iowa, and Milwaukee, though some items are imported (check product listings for specifics).

  • Mayhew: Founded in 1856, Mayhew Tools is the oldest punch and chisel manufacturer in the United States. Mayhew continues to manufacture in-house, proudly made in the USA items, “along with partnering with only the highest quality manufacturers outside of the U.S. to bring in products that enhance their overall offerings.”

  • Leatherman: Based in Portland, Oregon since 1983, this brand is famous for its multi-tools. All Leatherman multi-tools are manufactured in the U.S., blending craftsmanship with innovative design.

  • Wright Tool: Located in Ohio, Wright forges premium wrenches, ratchets, and sockets using U.S. steel. They’ve been committed to American production for nearly a century, offering lifetime warranties on most tools.

  • Bondhus: From Minnesota, Bondhus specializes in hex, ball, and TORX tools since 1964. Their precision tools are made in the U.S. and used globally in industries like automotive and manufacturing.

  • Hardcore Hammers: A Kansas-based company, they produce hammers, hatchets, and axes with American-sourced steel and hickory handles, focusing on durability and customization.

  • Tekton: Headquartered in Michigan, Tekton makes some of its hand tools—like pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches—in the U.S., though much of their line is produced overseas. Look for specific "Made in USA" labels.

  • Eklind: Since 1923, this Illinois company has focused on hex keys and precision tools, employing over 100 workers in their Franklin Park factory.

  • Council Tool: Based in North Carolina, this brand has been making axes, sledgehammers, and digging tools since 1886, all manufactured in the U.S.

  • Milwaukee Tool: While much of their production has shifted overseas (e.g., M18 and M12 power tools are made in China), Milwaukee maintains some U.S. manufacturing in Wisconsin and Mississippi, particularly for specific hand tools and accessories.

These brands vary in scope—some focus solely on hand tools, others on power tools or specialty items. Many have expanded globally, so not every product is U.S.-made; checking labels or manufacturer websites is key for confirmation. This list reflects a mix of legacy companies and newer players, all contributing to American manufacturing in 2025.
